Albert Barnes was born and raised in Kensington, a working class neighborhood in Philadelphia in 1872 which is credibly one of the reasons for his disdain towards the rich class. He was a very serious student, which was evident from the medical degree that he pull in from the University Of Pennsylvania Medical School at the age of twenty. He went off to Germany to study chemistry a few long time later. It was there where he met his business partner, a scientist names Herman Hille. Together, the two opened up the Barnes & Hille firm in Philadelphia in 1902.
Barnes & Hille conducted a number of experiments and they were able to create a product called mild silver protein. Argyrol is an antiseptic silver compound that was patented as a medicine. It was used for many things from the treatment of sore throats to the prevention of cecity in infants. The medicine was a big success and it brought in a lot of revenue for the firm. Unfortunately the duos relationship work and they separated in 1907. Dr. Barnes bought out his partner in 1908 and well-kept the expansion of the business. His pharmaceutical factory employed both blacks and whites. He would sell it in 1929 for six million dollars. This new fate was the basis for his art collecting.
