Lab: colloidal changeatin Electrophoresis
Purpose of this lab: The purpose of this experiment is to make gelatin electrophoresis and to understand how to use the results. Such as in cases where deoxyribonucleic acid is used to either exclude or confirm paternity or wickedness suspects.
Introduction: gelatin Electrophoresis is a process used to separate molecules found on their size and charge. This is accomplished by placing the molecules in a well inside the gel and electrifying the gel field. The molecules, which atomic number 18 now charged by the electricity, move across the gel. The shorter molecules pass on move more easily through the pores of the gel and because of this they provide move further than the longer molecules. This is called sieving.
In this experiment a pre-prep ared agarose gel is used. The gel is typically made with between 0.7% to 2% agarose which is dissolved in an electrophoresis buffer. Six contrary samples are used. The samples represent two DNA markers from blood at the crime scene as well as two DNA markers from each suspect. Materials:
