Handicapped By History
According to James Loewn, heroification is a degenerative process that makes people into
heroes. Loewen believes that American History text edition authors transform some of the people
in history into heroes with no blemishes or a bad side. He believes students reading almost
theses so c on the wholeed heroes should know about the aberrations committed by them. Loewen says
that by heroification, educators turn the most biased and awful people who curb done
fallacious acts into perfect creatures. I am wholly for Loewns argument. I too believe, as a
proud school student studying American history, we should not precisely learn about ones
accomplishments, but also about their flaws, mistakes and wrong-doings. two Americans that
have been heroified by American textbook authors are reason president Woodrow Wilson and
author Helen Keller who overcame her inability to hear, see or speak.
We all know that Woodrow Wilson was a very important president who helped the
global struggle people were facing after World war 1 by establishing the League of
Nations. We also know that he tried to help the whites during the Russian Revolution.
But
what we dont know much about was how he was a antiblack and about his many invasions of Latin
America. Why dont we know a lot about this side of the twenty-eighth president of America? Because
textbook writers try to hide these facts and moreover show us the good things Wilson has
accomplished. Even if some textbooks lambast a little about these hidden facts, they try to come out the
blame on the victims, some textbooks blame the invasions on the countries invaded (Loewen
24) referring to the invasions of Latin America. When Wilson was in power, …his
administration submitted a legislative program intend to curtail the civil rights of African
