My name is Winny and I am a young African slave. The year is 1846 I am not sure of the day, my family and I ar onboard what I am told is a slave ship and we sailed off the beach of Africa. There are scared faces all around me. Men, women, and children are all crammed to unsexher in tight spaces. I begin not eaten or drank in days and there is a putrid smell hanging heavy in the air. Could it be death I wonder? We have been at ocean for many days and many have died, their bodies have been throw overboard (Eye ensure to History, 2009).

We have journeyed more than 250 miles through the Appalachian Mountains and arrived in Rochester, impudent York. A woman named Susan B. Anthony and her antislavery friends give us warm wearing for the cold Canadian weather and tell us they give make sure we make it to Lake Erie safely. As we cross Lake Erie we combat the cold and ice that winter has dropped upon us and are on a constant lookout for bounty hunters looking to double back us to the Master.
We made it! I am finally release and despite the freezing temperatures a warm smile spreads crosswise my chapped lips.
Little did I know freedom would leave behind to a future filled with segregation and racism.
