AMADEUS Introduction Amadeus is a 1984 drama biopic film directed by miloš Forman and written by Peter Shaffer. Adapted from Shaffers period count Amadeus, the story is based loosely on the lives of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri, both composers who lived in Vienna, Austria, during the latter half of the 18th century. The next day Salieri is visited by a young non-Christian priest who attempts to cast down him to explain wherefore he would try to fritter his own life and in any case t o take his  confession. Salieri is sullen and indifferent but eventually warms to the priest and launches into a long confession about the relationship among himself and Mozart. As the movie afterwards cut back to this dialogue, it appears that Salieris twaddle goes on through the wickedness and into the next day.

This dialogue comprises a frame story, with the bulk of the movie being flashbacks to Mozarts lifetime. Salieri reminisces about his youth, oddly about his devotion to theology and his love for music and how he pledges to God to remain chaste as a throw if he can in some manner pay up his lif e to music. He describes how his fathers pla! ns for him were to go into business, but Salieri suggests that the explosive closing of his father, who choked to death during a meal with their family, was a miracle that allowed Salieri to follow a career in music.
