When the Irish Came to the joined States
The Irish American ethnic group in the United States has deceased through very hard times, since their arrival to the United States. The Irish immigrated to the United States during the Irish Potato Famine that struck Ireland, the stump spud paucity was a period of mass starvation, disease and transportation between 1845 and 1852. The Irish potato famine was the worst famine to occur in Europe in the 19th century. (Britannica.com) The Irish immigrated to the United States in hopes of finding a raw(a) action for them and their families.
The Irish however, did not find the new life they had hoped for upon arriving to the United States. Nearly a million Irish people arrived in the United States during the famine years that hit Ireland (historyplace.com). With so numerous Irish people arriving in the United States every day, the American people started to become overwhelmed with the presents of the Irish immigrants.
The Irish immigrants now go about many new challenges; the Irish immigrants faced discrimination, prejudice, and even segregation upon their arrival to the United States. The Irish immigrants were pointed at and laughed at by proper Bostonians as the Irish stepped off the boats that brought them to the United States because of the habiliments the Irish were wearing. The Irish immigrants were also often taken proceeds of by runners. These runners were often other Irish immigrants that have been in the United States for a while and claimed to know the ins and outs of how things worked in the United States. The runners would promise to help their fellow Irishmen find affordable living accommodations in clean, quite buildings, but instead would bring the new immigrants to overpriced, rodent infested rooms in neighborhoods that werent safe.
